Alistair

I was at the Lincolnshire HT conference this week and thoroughly enjoyed your talk. Much of what you were saying matched well with our school vision; I found your thoughts and ideas refreshing and despite recent resistance, I now feel inspired to keep going. You mentioned that the presentation and the lesson plan would be on the website - could you please direct me to these please as I would like to have another look at them? Many thanks.

The thing that i like is the simplicity of it. No gap between what he believes and how he acts.

Very true, saw Mickey Smith's video last week and it is a really inspiring life he leads. But it takes guts to do it. Perhaps easier that he has always been on that path and hasn't let anybody convince him to join the road well travelled.

I guess most people are discouraged from taking risks and chances early on and sold on the beautiful life of 9-5, the same thing those people teaching us resent within themselves. Well done Mickey for getting off the treadmill and living the dream.

I think that all players should be technically competent and that the development of this competence starts early and without over-specialisation. Between the ages of 10 and 19 at Barcelona boys spend 2,900 hours on directed practice but most of this will begin in small sided games with lots and lots of 'appropriate' touches. Being able to get and then maintain control in tight situations is part of that. As they get older the challenges become more game specific and then eventually in highly competitive situations. Dribbling is a much sought after expression of confident, close technical control

Hi Alistair
One of the points that you raised above strikes me as slightly askew in terms of the development of young players (or is this a separate issue/challenge). If 84% of passes are successful one-touch passes and players in possession have just over 2 touches on average, should we be thinking of restricting young players' touches on the ball, thereby reducing further the number of "dribblers" in the game.
